About
Hi and welcome to my website!

My name is Peppie and I am a 7 year old Pomeranian.
I was adopted by my human family 4 years ago and everybody noticed that there was a problem with my eyes. When I played with my soft toys, throwing it around it took me ages to find them again. When going for a walk I was lost when I was more than 5 meters away from my family.
Dog eye diseases are more common than most people think, but mine started off very mild and progressed slowly over the next year so my mummy and daddy did not thought that something major was going on. If you looked at my eyes they looked very normal and healthy but were very sensitive to sudden bright lights like the flash of a camera. I could not tell my family that my eyes hurt every time they took a photo as I had cataracts and glaucoma developing in both eyes.
The first year went by without major problems concerning my eyes. Then all of a sudden my eye disease took over my life as well as my loved ones. I often had eye infections and swollen eyes, almost once or twice a month.
Then my eye disease really developed to a point where the lens of my left eye detached. Not long after that the right eye’s lens detached as well. When you looked into my eyes you could see my lenses floating or lying flat on the bottom of my eye. Now the eye disease, glaucoma, went into full gear. I was on so many drugs in the form of eye drops and tablets to help control these dog eye diseases and for a small period of time it did. Glaucoma is a very, very painful eye disease and on top of that the drugs made me very sick.
After two years of having these canine eye diseases we lost the battle. Ulcers started to develop on a weekly basis in my eyes and my eyes specialist, a veterinary ophthalmologist, said that we had come to the end of the road regarding my eyes. Mummy and Daddy had to make the difficult decision of either putting me down or removing my eyes. They loved me too much and definitely could not put me to sleep.
Because I have been totally blind the last year of my life it would not matter if I did not have any eyes! So the decision was made to remove my diseased eyes, both of them.
Today I am a happy Pomeranian. I cope well with my surroundings and my family is very caring and loving. I can almost say they love me more today!
